Rian and I love exploring the different cafes and restaurants in Auckland city. One of our favourites, the Mexican Cafe, is a great choice when your taste buds are craving a fresh and crispy plate of guacamole-topped deliciousness. Mmmm.
So, when word was out that Taco Tuesdays ($6 tacos!) was being extended over the next few weeks, we rugged up and ventured there after work to escape a cool, wintry night. Boy, this place is authentic. If I’d been wearing my jandals, I could have sworn I was in Mexico.
Possibly the best thing about this place is the (free!) bowl of corn chips and salsa that is delivered to your table right away. Devoured in a matter of minutes!
(Excuse the poor photography…its not my strong point, and the ‘mood lighting’ didn’t help!)
We enjoyed our corn chips with a warming, yet tropical, sangria. It tasted like Spain and was just glorious – the perfect remedy for the mid-week blues.
The tacos were such great value and out-of-this-world tasty. Two tacos, refried beans, salad, rice, and a healthy dollop of guacamole, all for six bucks! Crispy and fresh with a touch of spice – just how quality Mexican food should be.
At the Mexican Cafe we were served quickly and taken care of superbly by our waitress, never feeling like we were being rushed to leave. We demolished our meals in ten minutes flat, but lingered afterwards over the last sips of our sangria.
The Mexican Cafe are onto a winner – Taco Tuesday is a must-do for any budget-conscious, mexican-craving folk out there. In fact, the Mexican Cafe is a must-do any day of the week.
Sidenote: I ended my Tuesday night with a girls’ trip to the movies to see Bridesmaids! It. Was. Hilarious. When I came home I quoted the entire movie to poor Rian, and then had trouble sleeping because I couldn’t stifle my laughter! Definitely a must-see.
Do you like Mexican food? And, have you seen Bridesmaids?
